AGE SPOTS are the dark flat brownish spots found on skin all over the body, which usually occur on the skins of older adults over the age of 40 with a history of excessive sun exposure and nutritional deficiencies. They do not lighten over time.
Over 90% of the population has pigmentation of some sort… including age spots, sun spots, freckles and melasma. Age spots are sometimes called liver spots – although they have nothing to do with the liver – the number one cause is exposure to sunlight and, despite being unsightly, they are nonetheless harmless. On the epidermis (outer skin layer), age spots and pigmentation can be easily removed however dermal pigment is a little more difficult to treat.

First we use skin imaging techniques to accurately customise a treatment plan, which could include: exfoliation, microdermabrasion, peels, LED light, laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments, which all fade pigment spots to a greater or lesser degree.
In addition to treatment-based cures, we recommend home care support products. These plant-based lightening actives can be used during treatment therapy, but be aware that most plant derived products cannot penetrate deep enough to reach the melanocytes* because the molecules of these products are too large. Plants or plant-based substances that are capable of lightening the skin include Licorice, Beta carotene, Birch, Sangui sorba officalinis, Scutelaria baicalensis, Bearberry and Mulberry.
*Melanocytes are located at the bottom of the epidermis, in the stratum germinativum. To provide results, a product must reach the melanocytes in order to inhibit or regulate the tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for the activity of the melanocyte system, which can only be effectively done via technology treatments.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pigmentation can easily recur with repeated UV (sun) exposure, so we suggest after treatment you change your lifestyle to avoid sun exposure.
