What Is a Body Wrap?

Using a combination of plastic, electric and/or thermal blanket, your body wrap will be done in a darkened room with soft music, whilst you are lying on a soft and comfortable bed covered in warm and fluffy blankets to keep you snuggly warm.

Most frequently your body wrap will commence with a scrub followed by a body cleanse before the wrap products are applied. When you are entirely wrapped, the thermal blanket will cover you completely for about 30 minutes.

The final step is to rinse and apply hydrating creams. Your skin will look and feel really smooth and you will also feel totally relaxed.

The common denominator in all body wraps is that you are wrapped in something – mud, treated bandages or thermal blanket, as an example. At LAB Skin Clinic, your body wraps have the additional benefits of relieving tired or heavy legs and aching joints, easing inflammation, and helping to flush toxins from the body through sweating.

Body wraps also provide inch loss but it is important to note that they may not be a permanent solution if you do not make lifestyle changes to accompany your results. We can only guarantee weight loss, body slimming & firming and cellulite removal when you follow all your aesthetician’s guidelines

AND…you must drink plenty of water both before and after the treatment to avoid dehydration.

Please check what you should wear before coming to your appointment… You will be given disposable underwear and we ask that you avoid shaving for 24 hours before your body wrap treatment.  Sunbathing should be avoided, as should alcohol and heavy meals before the treatment.

Always tell your therapist if you are pregnant or if you think you may be, as many spa treatments and ingredients are not suitable for pregnant women.  Others who should avoid body wraps include people with:

  • high blood pressure
  • heart conditions
  • claustrophobia
  • hypertension
  • diabetes
  • eczema
  • psoriasis

The Different Types of Body Wraps

Algae wrap – warmed algae is applied to the entire body to nourish and detoxify the skin.

Chocolate wrap – chocolate is recognised for its anti-ageing and toning properties.  It stimulates endorphins, softens and tones the skin, and plumps out wrinkles.

Cold wrap – designed to control excess fluid in the hip, leg, and thigh areas.  It is good for cellulite and fluid retention and relieves tired legs.

Seaweed wrap – this is a combination of seawater and seaweed and it hydrates and firms the skin.

Mud wrap – a layer of therapeutic mud is applied to the skin to detoxify, cleanse, and firm the skin.  The anti-stress properties of the mud reduce water retention and cleanse the pores by drawing out impurities.

Clay wrap – is similar to a mud wrap and is often mixed with aromatherapy oils. Cellulite treatment wrap – boosts circulation and flushes out toxins.  These wraps target the bottom and thighs.

Herbal wrap – uses herbs selected for their nourishing properties.  The herbs are blended with oils and steeped in very hot water.  Cloth sheets are then soaked in the solution and wrapped around the body.  It removes dead skin cells and nourishes the skin.

Bust wrap – a firming serum or mask is used around the bust area aimed at firming, toning and moisturising the skin.

Paraffin wrap – warm paraffin wax is brushed over specific areas or the whole body.  It is designed to reduce muscle and joint aches and soothe the symptoms of arthritis and intensify hydration.

Parafango wrap – Mineral-rich mud is mixed with warm paraffin wax to create a mini-sauna effect, which detoxifies and exfoliates, stimulates the body’s lymphatic flow, draws out toxins, and promotes relaxation and joint and muscle mobility.

Aromatherapy wrap – aromatherapy oils are used to moisturise dry or dehydrated skin
