Dermapen Micro-Needling

Dermapen Micro-Needling at LAB Skin Clinic Neutral Bay – Call 02 9170 4693

Dermapen Micro-Needling at LAB Skin Clinic in Neutral Bay is a 100% safe, quick, comfortable and effective way to improve your skin tone, texture and condition. Skin needling has evolved into one of our most popular treatments.

Micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy and Skin Needling) is a safe and minimally invasive advancement in aesthetic skin rejuvenation for all Fitzpatrick skin types and ethnicities.

Skin needling is perfect for the treatment of dull, lacklustre and congested skin, fine lines, shallow acne scars, pigmentation and enlarged pores plus it improves your skin’s texture, tone, colour, tightness and radiance.

Skin needling has become one of the world’s most sought-after aesthetic procedures because it is quick, safe, efficient and produces predictable and reliable results – affordably.

The Benefits of Micro needling (Skin Needling)

The primary objective of micro needling (skin needling) using a Dermapen is to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in your skin. As you age, you lose these two important proteins; proteins which keep your skin’s volume and structure intact. Collagen and elastin loss results in sagging, fine lines and wrinkles.

In addition to plumping, firming and reducing fine lines and wrinkles, skin needling also works well to:

  • reduce wrinkle, improve texture & tone
  • produce softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of ageing.
  • remove mild to moderate acne & surgical scars
  • significantly reduce pore size and increase skin firmness
  • remove hyperpigmentation
  • reduce/remove age spots
  • reduce appearance of rosacea
  • reduce/eliminate stretch marks
  • significantly improve skin texture, tone
  • improve skin quality and overall skin health
  • delivers topical serums into the deeper layers of the skin.
  • brightens skin and improves radiance
  • can be used on all parts of the body, face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back

How Does Micro Needling (Skin Needling) Work?

Before  your micro needling or skin needling procedure, a sealed, sterile and disposable cartridge, which contains twelve 32-guage medical-grade needles, is inserted into the head of the  Dermapen skin needling device (see photo LEFT). This sealed unit ensures there is no cross-contamination and complies with the highest safety standards.

Next, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. (If you are having medical-grade (skin penetration up to a depth of 3mm) micro-needling treatment, you will receive a topical anaesthetic; if not, the procedure will commence immediately.) In a single motion, the pen will be gently guided over your skin in multiple directions until the entire treatment area has been covered. Whilst some areas can be more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating needle tips makes the treatment comfortable. The comfort factor is attributable to the Dermapen needles, which oscillates at 8,500 RPM creating tens of thousands of microscopic fractional channels. The ultra-fast pulsation and variable needle depth, enhances your comfort and shortens treatment time to approximately 15minutes.

After one area has been needled, growth factor and other ingredients are applied to your skin to accelerate a healing response and improve cellular turnover. As a consequence, your skin’s heightened repair process produces collagen and elastin, helping to develop a thickening and tightening of your skin.

Immediately after your micro needling treatment, your skin will be bright red (see photo on RIGHT) and feel as though it has been sun burned. You will be given an Omnilux LED treatment and a post-skin needling mask treatment after which your skin will feel much cooler.

After your first treatment, typically your skin will heal completely within 24 hours but healing time can take up to 4 days if your skin health is compromised.

Typical results of Your Micro Needling Treatment

Because the epidermis (outer skin layer) stays intact, most clients can resume their normal daily activities immediately after skin needling, although we recommend you don’t wear makeup for 24 hours.

Over the ensuing few days, your skin will shed and feel tight. Within 7 days after micro needling, we recommend a post-needling hydration and LED treatment. Depending upon your skin’s starting point, visible improvements will be apparent within the first or second treatment and they will continue to improve.

Most clients see an immediate “glow” to their skin within a week of treatment with continuous improvements visible over a series of several treatments. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after a course of treatments as collagen production continues.

How Many Micro Needling Treatments Will You Need?

We recommend a series of treatments for optimal results and maintenance once per year – more for more aged skins.

  • Skin Rejuvenation: 3 to 4 treatments
  • Deep set wrinkles, advanced photo-ageing, stretch marks and acne scars: 6 to 8 treatments
  • Stretch marks / cellulite: 4 to 8 treatments
  • Pigmentation: 4 to 6 treatments
  • Melasma: this is a slow commitment and can take up to 12 to 18 treatments for maximum removal

A Skin Needling (micro needling) treatment starts at $300.00 per treatment.

Is a Dermaroller treatment the same as Skin Needling?

A micro needling roller is a device with a rotating wheel filled with tiny micro needles. Because a roller only has 1 size of micro needles, they only pierce to a superficial depth into the skin. As a consequence, the roller is moderately effective in targetting hyperpigmentation because the pigment sits close to the surface of the skin. However, the needles don’t penetrate deep enough into the skin to produce collagen. Also the derma roller cannot reach close to the eyes and nose areas plus it is ineffective against cellulite, scarring or enlarged pores.

Best used at home, a derma roller can help with skin rejuvenation however it has serious limitations and most clients do not achieve their desired results. LAB Skin Clinic has never used or recommended this type of skin needling.

Why Is Dermapen Micro Needling Best?

Dermapen is the very latest advancement in micro needling and far superior to a dermaroller. Because of its shape, the Dermapen can easily reach small areas for improved results.

The Dermapen is an advanced and more precise device that can target sensitive and hard-to-reach areas around the eyes, top lip and corners of the nose where the roller cannot reach. In addition, a Dermapen has adjustable needle depths for added patient comfort and for targetting deeper skin zones. Importantly, a micro needling pen is applied perpendicular to the skin whereas the dermaroller drags the skin at an angle causing tearing at the skin’s surface and increasing the possibility of increased recovery time.

These factors have been carefully evaluated in LAB Skin Clinic’s decision to only offer skin needling using  a Dermapen, rather than a roller.

TESTIMONIAL: “I look forward to every treatment because I see results immediately. All of my friends compliment me on my skin now and I am so happy. I have had many other treatments before to treat my acne scars and nothing worked as well as micro-needling. I would highly recommend it to anyone!”  Elizabeth K., Neutral Bay
