Clear + Brilliant and Permea Lasers are approved medical fractional laser technologies for the effective resurfacing, lightening, brightening and rejuvenating of skin. These 2 unique technologies correct skin tone and pigmentation, tighten and lift, and resurface skin to promote more radiant, healthier and younger looking skin.
What it treats: C&B laser is excellent for both improving skin texture through collagen generation and Permea clarifies the complexion by destroying unevenly pigmented skin cells. They are used separately, with superb results, to minimize acne scars, reduce hyperpigmentation, and smooth the skin on the face, neck and décolletage. This laser is one of the most popular in the US.
Clear + Brilliant can be used exclusively or as a complementary treatment with other dermatological procedures, and is suitable for men and women of all skin types.
Utilizing proven proprietary fractional laser science and technology, the Clear + Brilliant laser creates an array of microscopic lesions across the surface of the skin with each pass of the handpiece. The patented pattern of lesions is created by the Intelligent Optical Tracking System (IOTS®) enclosed within the handpiece. This patented technology creates an unparalleled even pattern on the skin – microscopic lesions that are surrounded by large areas of healthy skin – to help promote quick healing with little or no social downtime. The healthy skin helps turn over the tiny lesions in a matter of days, revealing the fresh, smoother, healthier glowing skin below.
Unlike other conventional lasers that use a stamping delivery method, the Clear + Brilliant laser has been optimized to maximize patient comfort while still providing an effective and powerful fractional laser treatment. It features a patented delivery system that ensures consistent and uniform coverage. Each treatment is non-ablative (meaning the outer skin surface remains intact), which translates into a safe, low risk treatment that heals quickly and is convenient for the patient.
C&B Laser rejuvenates the skin from the inside out to allow healthy, younger-looking skin to surface. After anaesthetic application, treatments take about 20 minutes per session, after which there is little downtime and very few mild side effects such as redness and oedema and you can apply makeup immediately after and continue with your daily activities without risk to the skin.
Optimal results: You may need from 3 to 6 sessions – more if you have aged skin. Downtime following this procedure is minimal with only 10 to 11 hours required for the redness to subside, followed by 1 to 2 days of pinkness. Dry, rough and scaly skin increasingly surfaces within 3 to 4 days. Patients typically return to the Clinic for a deep exfoliation and Oxygen facial to complete the process.
Many people confuse laser with other light technology treatments such as IPL and LED. Following is an explanation of the differences.
IPL is not used for the treatment of wrinkles; if this is your concern, we recommend laser.
What it treats: If your complexion is unevenly toned and pigmented, chances are good that IPL will clarify it very successfully.
IPL is used to eliminate the redness and flushing associated with acne, rosacea, and broken blood vessels and reduce hyperpigmentation such as sun spots and freckles. IPL also evens skin tone and makes it more radiant, plus it helps to shrink pores and slightly lift and tighten skin.
IPL may also be used for hair removal and for the treatment of keratosis pilaris (tiny red bumps that = typically appear on the upper arms or inner thighs), however we do not recommend IPL for melasma.
How it works: IPL treatments, as opposed to laser, offer the benefits of adjustable light wavelengths, which means they can be used to treat various types of discolouration at once. As the IPL produces short bursts of light, it destroys the hyperpigmented skin cells, dilated veins, and/or hair follicles.
Contra-indications: IPL is not typically recommended for all skin discolourations and very dark skin types. IPL treatments, which last about 15 to 20 minutes, are usually repeated every 3 to 4 weeks for up to 3 months, thence spread apart less frequently until optimal results have been achieved.
Post-treatments, light skin types’ skin may be slightly pink for 2 to 5 days and hyperpigmented (brown) areas may get darker for up to 4 to 7 days, which then crust and peel off.
LED (Light Emitting Diodes)
The gold standard in LED technology is Omnilux Medical. There are many clones in the market-place, but none has the power to equal the results that can be achieved with Omnilux. We use them in conjunction with every treatment technology.
What it treats: LED treatments have become key in resolving skin problems as well as producing massive amounts of collagen and elastin in the fight against the signs of skin ageing.
Especially valuable for controlling breakouts and the successful eradication of acne that oral and topical medications have failed to curb, Omnilux is an attractive alternative to stronger treatment options like Roaccutane. Omnilux LED treatments can also help accelerate wound healing and lighten hyperpigmentation, although for these indications, the results are generally less dramatic than IPL and Laser.
How it works: Omnilux works via a process called photo-modulation (meaning it changes cells’ activity as opposed to destroying them). Using various wavelengths (blue, red or white light), Omnilux LED treatments can:
- kill acne-causing bacteria in skin cells
- reduce inflammation (especially useful after surgery, injectables, laser or micro-needling)
- increase collagen production by 76% and skin elasticity by 65% (to help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity)
- lighten freckles, hyper-pigmentation and age spots
- speed recovery and aid in rapid cellular repair post-surgery
- skin exposed to LED wavelengths grows 150-200% faster
Treatments: Last for 20 minutes, are painless, and require no downtime. The number of required treatments will vary according to your condition and age.
