Milia removal at LAB Skin Clinic, Neutral Bay, is a totally safe and painless method of removing these outbreaks.

You might notice small, regular bumps found interspersed on your face. These bumps are neither red nor painful, so you probably won’t associate them with acne. Chances are these bumps are milia — small cysts that cause the skin to look slightly coarse

What causes Milia?

Milia form when flakes of keratin become trapped under the skin. Keratin is one of the building-block proteins of your skin. Keratin helps form the rigidity of your skin, and it’s tasked with offering a barrier of protection. So, when this strong protein becomes trapped within a pore, it creates a pearly bump.

Milia can be an aesthetic inconvenience and can make you feel self-conscious, especially because they are usually highly visible – usually appearing on your eyelids and cheeks, but sometimes across your nose, as well.

How is Milia Removal treated at LAB SKIN CLINIC

1. De Roofing

The most common procedure for milia removal is de-roofing. Our Senior Dermal Therapist will use a sterile needle to remove the tiny flap of skin trapping the keratin flake inside the pore. They then squeeze or prick out the flake.

2. Laser Removal of Milia

Which involves using a small and focused laser to destroy the cyst

3. LAB Skin Medi Peels + Microdermabrasion

Peels including retonic acid, monthly can reduce the recurrence.  We often combine it with microdermabrasion.

4. Skin Care Products

Skin care products that can help include retinol & retinoids (creams that contain vitamin A compounds).  Chemical exfoliants include AHAs such as glycolic acid or lactic acid washes or serums. These take time to work, so be patient.
