Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections at LAB Skin Clinic, Neutral Bay
LAB Skin Clinic in Neutral Bay, performs hundreds of successful Platelet Rich Plasma injections each year. Platelet-rich-plasma injections are an exciting addition to an age-prevention regimen and a natural cosmetic enhancement for which a significant amount of worldwide scientific experience is available to support its effectiveness and safety.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has long been recognised for its wound-healing properties in areas such as surgery and sports injuries, but now this revolutionary technology is being used as a safe, wholly natural and long-lasting approach to creating youthful-looking and rejuvenated skin.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Vampire Lift’, ‘Angel Lift’ or ‘Slow Facelift’, PRP is a procedure, which consistently delivers excellent results – especially when used with concentrated growth factors.
The platelet rich plasma (PRP) skin rejuvenation technique utilizes your own blood to repair damaged and ageing skin as well as regenerate tissue, muscle and bone… in fact, virtually any area of the body in which it is injected.

PRP is a versatile treatment and an amazing bioactive stimulator (not a filler), which increases collagen and elastin fibres to thicken, lift and firm your skin – making it plumper, more healthy and younger-looking. Results are exceptional and very worthwhile in your rejuvenation quest.

So how do platelet rich plasma injections work?
Platelet Rich Plasma treatments involve harvesting a blood sample of your blood cells to stimulate natural skin rejuvenation without the use of chemicals.
A small amount (approx. 10-30ml) of your own blood is collected into a vial and placed in a centrifuge and separated; the heavier cells, such as red blood cells, drop to the bottom of the vial, and the platelet rich plasma (golden plasma) is left at the top of the vial.
The harvested golden plasma is then injected back, into whichever area you wish to treat, to activate your skin cells; this is called the clotting cascade, which causes the golden plasma to stimulate and secrete growth factors into the treatment area – thereby causing them to multiply and form new tissue.
Your treatment is conducted in one seamless process by a qualified doctor and takes approximately 30-minutes to one-hour and anaesthesia is not usually required.
Normally clients will require between 3 to 4-sessions of PRP treatment at monthly intervals. Reassessment after the last treatment will determine whether you have achieved the expected results or whether you require more sessions.
Ongoing maintenance, at least once a year, will help to keep your results peeked, although older clients will usually need maintenance treatments every 6-months.
Younger clients may experience longer-lasting results – up to a year or maybe longer – and require less maintenance visits.
Because PRP is taken from your own blood, there are no risks of disease or allergic reactions. Some minimal post-treatment swelling, bruising and/or redness and possibly a mild headache may occur, which could last for up to 12 to 24-hours (in a few exceptional clients this may last for a few days), otherwise there is no downtime with this procedure.

Each individual responds differently to the treatments however most clients will normally see results within approximately 2 to 4-weeks and the skin will continue to respond and gradually improve in texture and tone over the next few months. Most clients will require between 3 to 4-treatments over several months.

Because platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a bio-stimulating treatment, some areas will respond better than others and there will be some variations between clients.
Pre & Post-Treatment:
Eat and drink as healthily as possible and avoid fatty foods, coffee, alcohol, anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 2 to 3-days before and after the treatment. For a few days following treatment, you should avoid excessive exercise.
How will PRP help me?
The most common treatment areas are the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
The best results are achieved in younger clients and older clients, who have cared for their skin, neither of whom smokes nor has chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart, lung or kidney disease, auto-immune disease, or asthma.
Areas of skin with fine lines and mild skin laxity will respond better than those areas with deeper wrinkles and are more aged. Older clients, aged from 60 and upwards, who are healthy, will still respond to PRP treatment, but will require more treatments.
PRP has become very popular in Europe, Asia and the U.S. not only for skin rejuvenation but especially for peri-orbital (around the eyes) rejuvenation, which is traditionally a difficult area for non-surgical treatment.
Fine lines in the lower eyelids are the result of slowly increasing skin laxity as a result of declining collagen and elastin. These lines become increasingly more noticeable as you age. Cosmetic injections are of limited benefit but PRP injections are really useful as they help improve the texture and elasticity of thinning eyelid skin.

What can I do to improve the outcome of my PRP injections?
While PRP treatment has a reasonably high success rate, the outcome largely depends on you as an individual. Below, we will share some healthy habits that will ensure the best possible outcome of your PRP injections:

If you follow all of the above tips mentioned above, we are very confident that the outcome of your PRP treatment will be exceptional.
It is also important to understand that these results take time to present themselves. So, take care of your body, and do what you can to promote a healthy body and appearance, and when used in conjunction with PRP, you’d be amazed by the results!
Is platelet rich plasma therapy safe (are there side effects)?
While there is still much to learn about PRP injections, the procedure itself is largely very safe.
Certainly, you may experience a little bit of pain, bruising, and/or swelling after the procedure, however, this typically disappears after a few days.
Ultimately, the only real risk of the procedure is how your blood is handled once harvested.
Fortunately, we understand the importance of keeping your blood perfectly sterile so as to avoid any potential infection.
We follow the exact same process that any licenced medical transfusion centres use in order to insure that when your blood is injected back into your, it is entirely sterile and that it is indeed your own.
We allow ZERO room for error.
PRP injections are very low-risk procedures and tend not to cause any major side effects as well.
As the injections are made up of your own blood cells and plasma, the risk of having an allergic reaction is significantly lower than having any other injectable medications.
Some of the potential risks include:
-
Bleeding
-
Tissue damage (soft tissue injuries)
-
Infection
-
Nerve injuries

-
High-intensity cardio: while you should always be doing this kind of physical therapy anyway (up to 30-minutes a day), it is the key to ramping up the production of your red blood cells and ultimately strengthening your immune system and speeding up the healing process. When getting regular cardio, your body will produce higher levels of blood cells, so you’ll get more PRP from your blood. In addition, having a healthier immune system is a bonus, giving you the best possible results.
-
Eat a leafy-green diet: one of the hardest lifestyle changes for some people is their diet. In any case, for long-term health, it is the most important aspect. When you introduce more green, leafy veggies to your diet, you will be cutting out sugary and fatty foods, you’ll eat smaller portions, and you’ll gain a number of amazing health benefits that can only aid the PRP procedure (such as creating more white blood cells). That, and better immunity and lower cholesterol from increased circulation syncs perfectly with the exercise mentioned above).
-
Give up smoking and drinking excessive alcohol: not only does smoking cigarettes and drinking excessive alcohol age your skin rapidly, but it also doesn’t do your PRP any favours either. By giving up (or significantly cutting down at the least), you can get more PRP from the same amount of blood, while also enjoying faster stem cell recovery.
-
Get more vitamin B and stay hydrated: increasing your vitamin-B intake (particularly vitamin B12) and staying regularly hydrated is critical in increasing more red blood cells and haemoglobin. These can typically be found in a wide variety of healthy plant and animal foods, so a healthy, balanced diet should do the trick (with plenty of water).
-
Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications where possible: make sure that you do not take any medications such as aspirin, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories for up to 5-days before the procedure. This is because they may invariably inhibit the stem cells’ natural inflammatory response.
-
Stick to the post-procedure routine recommended by us: we will provide you with the best possible routine to follow after the procedure, for the greatest chance at successful results. We urge you to follow this routine as closely as possible.
