It is the golden rule that the way to reduce the signs of ageing in the skin is by stimulating collagen and elastin… However, from the time you are about 18 to 20 years of age, you start losing collagen and as you age you will lose more than you make.

What increases collagen loss is lifestyle, sun exposure, sugar consumption and a genetic predisposition to collagen loss… all these factors contribute to an increase and an acceleration of collagen and elastin loss over time.

So what are collagen and elastin?

These valuable extracellular fibres reside in the dermis, which is where your active and potent ingredients MUST reach if they are to work to create visible results.

The skin is the largest organ in the body, consisting of 3 layers:

  1. Epidermis
  2. Dermis
  3. Subcutaneous

The epidermis is the first barrier between you and the outside world – think of your epidermis as your ‘protective barrier’. Your epidermal cell turnover, which is the natural exfoliating and shedding of dead skin cells occurs at the rate of every 48 days in a young and healthy skin and takes up to 68 to 78 days in an older or unhealthy skin.

After your mid-twenties, your cell turnover rate begins to slow down, which can result in your skin looking thickened, rough, dull and congested. Unfortunately, it has become common practice to remove the dead skin cells with harsh chemical peels, abrasive machinery that buffs away dead skin, as in microdermabrasion treatments, but which only result in compromised, irritated and inflamed skin – leading to more congestion, pimples, blackheads, milia and poorly behaved skin.

Keeping your skin healthy and radiant.

The correct and safer way to remove dead skin cells and regain healthy skin is to speed up the skin’s natural cellular turnover rate and focus attention where the ageing process occurs and can be improved: in the dermis – the second layer.

FACT: 98% of skincare and clinic treatments do not penetrate further into the epidermis than the top two or three layers… and NEVER into the deeper layer of the dermis.

The Dermis is the middle and most critical layer of your skin; it is this layer that produces new cells, which are responsible for the manufacture of healthy new collagen and elastin. After the age of 20, your dermis thins at a rate of 1.5% per year due to collagen and elastin breakdown. If you don’t replace this lost collagen & elastin, your skin will wrinkle and sag.

At LAB Skin Clinic, to stop collagen loss and prevent further damage, we remodel the collagen and rebuild the dermis by using an integrated variety of supplements, medical-grade technologies and skin care actives to target the dermis – effectively reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.

The overall result is flawless and youthful skin: it is plumper, it will regain a radiant glow, you’ll see an increase in firmness & elasticity, pores are refined, skin texture & tone is improved, and the skin is healthier and behaves better.
